THE GRATE WATERS, RAINS FOREST
This is the tropical region of the country where heavy rains and hot temperatures contribute to make a fascinating scenery: the subtropical rainforest. This exuberant jungle of gigantic trees shelters a diverse ecosystem found nowhere else in the country.. We find the breathtaking Iguazú Falls, considered one of the wonders of the modern world, where the supreme power of nature is conveyed through the terrific roar of falling water as the visitor just cannot believe his eyes. The Iguazú Falls on the Argentina-Brazil border are 19 km upstream from the confluence of the Río Iguazú and the Río Alto Paraná. Above the main falls the river, sown with wooded islets, opens out to a width of four kilometers. There are rapids for three and a half kilometers above the 60 meter precipice from which water plunges in 275 falls over a frontage of 2470 meters at a rate of 1750 cubic meters a second. The most impressive of these falls, the Garganta del Diablo or Devil's throat can be reached from Puerto Canoas. Boats link Puerto Canoas with a series of catwalks which lead to a unique spot right above the Garganta, strongly recommended in the evening when the light is best and the swifts are returning to roost on the cliffs. Above the deafening impact of water upon basalt rock hovers a perpetual 30 meter high cloud of mist in which the sun creates blazing rainbows. Viewed from below, the tumbling water in its paradisiacal setting so rich in wildlife is just unforgettable, especially outside the cool season when water is diminished as well as insects and birds..-. It is best to come between May and November. - Iguazú National Park The Iguazú National Park, located 18 kilometers from Puerto Iguazú, is where you can find the spectacular Iguazu Falls. This park has been declared Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. These are not the only features to admire at the the Iguazú National Park.At the border of Misiones with Brazil, the Uruguay river offers the Mocona Falls which fall 12m along 3 km. The way to get there is by boat from a small village called El Soberbio. Other national parks the visitor cannot miss are: the Río Pilcomayo National Park, El Palmar National Park, the Iberá Marshlands or the Chaqueñas Plains. - Jesuit MissionsThe ruins of San Ignacio Mini, 56 from Misiones' capital city, the biggest mission built by the Jesuits, are a sight to see. This mission, founded on its present site in 1696 housed 4356 people at the height of its prosperity. These ruins have been part of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. At San Ignacio is the ``Centro de Interpretación Jesuito-Guarini««, with representations of the lives of the Guaranies before the arrival of the Spanish, the work of the Jesuits and the consequence of their expulsion, as well as a fine model of the mission in its heyday. Other Jesuit ruins include Candelaria, Loreto, Santa Ana and Santa Maria.-
